Chemical free mouth health with oil pulling

This week I’d like to bring oil pulling into the spotlight.  We have all heard that fluoride isn’t something that we should now be using on our teeth, which is very different to when I was young, as we literally went to the Orthodontist to have it coated onto our teeth!

Therefore a lot more people are turning to fluoride free toothpastes and less chemical laden methods of tooth cleaning, as fluoride can sometimes cause adverse effects according to some, like tooth discolouration and bone problems.

This is why Oil Pulling is becoming much more prominent these days, it is an Ancient Ayurvedic Indian practice that is fully natural and helps to pull the bacteria from the gums, teeth and mouth from all of the crevices and into the oil, allowing them to be released.

You can choose from Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil or Sesame Oil, (Coconut being the preferred choice due its pleasant taste), and it is as simple as taking a tablespoon of the oil and swishing it around your mouth for around 5-20 minutes, allowing it to collect up all the debris so that you can then remove it when you spit out.

Generally it is better especially with coconut oil to spit it into the bin or a tissue as it can clog the drains when it solidifies.

After performing the oil pulling you can then clean your teeth as normal.  It is optimal to Oil Pull daily if you can, preferably on an empty stomach in the morning, however you can perform only once to twice a week if you prefer. Consistency of Oil Pulling though will show reduced plaque, whiter teeth and improved oral hygiene.

In my personal experience I find that after having a childhood brace my teeth are pretty close together, so I really dislike flossing, therefore Oil Pulling for me is a much more gentle and pleasant way of removing debris from my teeth.
